چکیده

This study was conducted to investigate the susceptibility of 4 strains (AKR, CF#l, C3H/He and KK) of inbred mice to infection with Schistosoma japonicum. The worm recovery was highest in KK strain (50%), followed by C3H/He (42%) , AKR (42%) and CF #1(38 %) respectively. The worm burden of the females of strain KK was significantly higher than that of the males. The worm maturity was highest in AKR strain (98.1%) and lowest (89.9%) in the KK strain.

Hybridoma antibody immunoassays for the detection of parasitic infection: further studies on a monoclonal antibody with immunodiagnostic potential for Schistosomiasis japonica.

The binding of a hybridoma-derived antibody (designated IPH.134-18-6) to an extract of the adult worn of Schistosoma japonicum has been further characterized. This antibody has immunodiagnostic potential for detection of infection with S. japonicum in the Philippines since the binding of labeled hybridoma antibody to a crude adult worm extract in a solid-phase radioimmunoassay (RIA) is inhibite...

Susceptibility of inbred mouse strains to infection with Serpula (Treponema) hyodysenteriae.

Several inbred strains of mice were inoculated with Serpula (Treponema) hyodysenteriae B204 to determine susceptibility to infection. Challenge doses of 10(7) or 10(8) spirochetes induced cecal lesions in C3H/HeJ mice and other C3H strains of mice. However, more than a 100-fold difference existed between the dose required to induce lesions in 50% of the infected C3H/HeJ mice (8.3 x 10(7)) and t...

Karyotype of NIH, C57BL/6 and Razi strains of laboratory mice (Mus musculus)

The laboratory mouse is recognized as the pre-eminent model for genetic research. Awareness of chromosomal patterns of experimental animals increases their value for a variety of different fields of study. We aimed to study mitotic chromosome preparations from NIH, C57BL/6 and Razi strains of mice, which are outbred, inbred and partially inbred laboratory mice respectively. Bone marrow cells we...

Differential Expression of Chemokine and Matrix Re-Modelling Genes Is Associated with Contrasting Schistosome-Induced Hepatopathology in Murine Models

The pathological outcomes of schistosomiasis are largely dependent on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the host immune response. In this study, we investigated the contribution of variations in host gene expression to the contrasting hepatic pathology observed between two inbred mouse strains following Schistosoma japonicum infection. Whole genome microarray analysis was employed in con...

Impact of Schistosoma japonicum Infection on Collagen-Induced Arthritis in DBA/1 Mice: A Murine Model of Human Rheumatoid Arthritis

BACKGROUND The hygiene hypothesis suggests that helminth infections prevent a range of autoimmune diseases. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS To investigate the effects of S. japonicum infection on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), male DBA/1 mice were challenged with unisexual or bisexual S. japonicum cercariae two weeks prior to bovine type II collagen (CII) immunization or at the onset of CIA...
